Amazon will allegedly introduce new Kindle Fire tablets this fall, complete with all new designs and sharper screens. Basically, the company will adhere to the expected annual iteration policy many other companies follow. The question is if Amazon will come up with a surprising feature that’ll attract new and repeat customers. A low price is always a good start.

According to sources speaking with BGR, Amazon will refresh its entire lineup of Fire devices, leaving something for everybody. First up, the online retailer’s basic Kindle Fire will get a resolution bump up to 1,280 x 800 (up from 1,024 x 600)—that’s the same res as the current Fire HD 7. The HD 7, in turn, will get come equipped with a 1,920 x 1,200 screen. Meanwhile, Amazon’s excellent Fire HD 8.9 will supposedly have a display that’s 2,560 x 1,600, making it more dense than Apple’s iPad with Retina.

Each rumored bump seems very reasonable, but these are still rumors after all. It’s unclear how Amazon plans on iterating on specs—we’d expect the company’s devices to run off Jelly Bean this time, which Amazon will no doubt fork to fit its needs. The devices themselves already sport some very underrated designs, though Amazon is reportedly going to tweak button placement and make the tablets lighter.

The new Fires aren’t expected to hit until this fall, giving us plenty of time to sort through rumors ahead of an announcement, whenever that may be. In addition to new tablets, will Amazon finally jump into the smartphone market? Who knows. Nothing is official until Amazon says so.
